ALWAGHT- Iran dispatched a Foreign Ministry official to Uruguay for the inauguration of Yamandu Orsi, a former mayor and history teacher who assumed office as Uruguay’s new president on Saturday.
Issa Kameli, the assistant foreign minister and director general of the Americas Department at the Iranian Foreign Ministry, attended Yamandu Orsi’s inauguration in Montevideo.
During the event, the Iranian representative met with Uruguay's newly appointed Foreign Minister, Mario Lubetkin.
Kameli conveyed messages of congratulations, peace, and friendship from the Iranian government and people to their Uruguayan counterparts.
He also expressed optimism about strengthening bilateral relations in this new political era.
Orsi’s inauguration at age 57 marked the return of Uruguay’s Broad Front—a center-left coalition of moderates, communists, and trade unionists—following a five-year term under outgoing conservative President Luis Lacalle Pou.
