ALWAGHT- Gaza resistance fighters have transferred three Israeli captives to the Red Cross in exchange for the release of 369 Palestinians, as part of the latest prisoner swap under the ongoing truce agreement.
On Saturday, Gaza resistance fighters paraded three Israeli captives onto a stage in Khan Yunis, where the men addressed the crowd before being handed over to the Red Cross. The captives, holding gift bags and certificates marking the end of their captivity, expressed hopes for further exchanges under the ongoing ceasefire agreement. Approximately 200 fighters from Hamas and Islamic Jihad participated in the handover ceremony.
This release marks the sixth since the truce began on January 19, following tensions over Israel's refusal to allow sufficient humanitarian aid into Gaza. In exchange, Israel is set to release 369 Palestinian prisoners, most of whom were detained after the October 7 operation in southern Israeli settlements. The prisoner swap comes amidst concerns that the ceasefire deal was on the brink of collapse.
The release also comes amid rising controversy over US President Donald Trump's remarks suggesting that Gaza’s 2.3 million residents be moved to Egypt and Jordan. His proposal has been widely rejected by Hamas, Arab nations, and other Islamic countries. A statement from Christian leaders in al-Quds emphasized the right of Gazans to remain in their homeland. In response to these displacement calls, Hamas emphasized that the only place for Palestinians to go is al-Quds.
