ALWAGHT- US President Donald Trump stated that Ukraine "could eventually become part of Russia," and also suggested he might seek to recover the funds invested by the US government in Ukraine.
In an interview with Fox News, US President Donald Trump discussed Ukraine’s vast natural resources, such as rare earth elements, oil, and gas, and emphasized the importance of securing US investments. He expressed concerns over the hundreds of billions of dollars spent in Ukraine and mentioned that he would seek to recover the funds, proposing an equivalent amount in rare earth minerals valued at $500 billion. Trump claimed that Ukraine had essentially agreed to this arrangement, adding that it was important to avoid feeling “stupid” about the US financial involvement.
Trump also warned Ukraine that the US could not continue its financial support at the same levels, signaling a shift in policy moving forward. TASS reported that Trump reiterated his position on limiting US financial contributions to the country.
Meanwhile, Russian President Vladimir Putin, on June 14, 2024, outlined the conditions for resolving the conflict in Ukraine, including the withdrawal of Ukrainian forces from Donbass and Novorossiya, Kiev’s non-NATO commitment, and the protection of rights for Russian-speaking citizens. Russia further demands the lifting of Western sanctions and Ukraine’s non-aligned, nuclear-free status.
