Iran Slams Trump’s Gaza Plan; Algeria Backs Tehran’s OIC Proposal

ALWAGHT- Algeria has endorsed Iran's proposal to hold a meeting of Islamic nations on the crisis in Gaza, following US President Donald Trump’s plan to seize the besieged territory and relocate its entire population.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi proposed an urgent meeting of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) during a phone call with his Algerian counterpart, Ahmed Attaf. This initiative is part of Araghchi’s broader diplomatic efforts to rally Islamic nations against what he described as an "ethnic cleansing conspiracy" in Gaza. He also briefed Attaf on his recent discussions with Islamic countries, the OIC secretary general, and the UN chief to mobilize international opposition to the crisis.

Araghchi strongly condemned the forced displacement of Palestinians from Gaza, calling it a colonial scheme aimed at "erasing Palestine." He praised Algeria’s steadfast support for Palestinian self-determination and urged a unified and decisive stance from the international community. Algeria reaffirmed its rejection of any plan to expel Gaza’s residents from their homeland, emphasizing its firm stance against such actions.

The controversy intensified after former US President Donald Trump proposed taking control of Gaza under the pretense of reconstruction, suggesting the relocation of 2.4 million Gazans to Egypt and Jordan. Both Cairo and Amman swiftly dismissed the plan, as did Saudi Arabia after Trump later suggested relocating Palestinians there. The widespread rejection from regional powers underscores the deep opposition to forced displacement efforts in the Palestinian territories.
