Another Attempt at Maximum Pressure, Another Failure for Washington

Another Attempt at Maximum Pressure, Another Failure for Washington

ALWAGHT- Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi stated that the United States' renewed implementation of the "maximum pressure" policy against Iran will result in yet another failure.

Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi dismissed the US policy of "maximum pressure," stating that it had already proven to be a failure and that any attempt to revive it would result in another defeat for Washington. He referred to the policy implemented during Donald Trump’s presidency, which involved the US withdrawing from the 2015 nuclear deal with Iran, reinstating sanctions, and imposing additional unilateral measures. In response, Iran advanced its nuclear program, including operationalizing advanced centrifuges, and took steps to bypass sanctions, leading to what Araghchi described as Washington's "maximum defeat."

In light of Trump’s recent promotion of new "tough" measures aimed at preventing Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons, Araghchi reiterated that Iran’s nuclear activities are fully in compliance with international regulations. He emphasized that Iran has consistently adhered to the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) and highlighted the fatwa issued by Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, which prohibits the pursuit, acquisition, or storage of nuclear weapons for religious and moral reasons. Araghchi’s comments aimed to reassure that Iran’s nuclear intentions remain peaceful.

In a similar vein, Mohammad Eslami, head of Iran’s Atomic Energy Organization, also responded to Trump’s remarks, reaffirming that Iran has never had, nor will it ever pursue, a nuclear weapons program. He reiterated that Iran’s nuclear program is strictly peaceful and is being carried out in accordance with international safeguards and the NPT. Both officials sought to clarify Iran’s stance in response to ongoing US accusations and threats regarding its nuclear ambitions.
