ALWAGHT- The Iranian Foreign Ministry condemned the murder of civilians in Sudan and the assaults on non-military sites, including vital infrastructure like hospitals, in the Northeast African nation.
In a statement on Monday, Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei expressed condolences for the victims of recent attacks in Sudan, particularly in el-Fasher, Darfur, which have resulted in numerous civilian deaths.
Baghaei emphasized the importance of adhering to international humanitarian law, especially the prohibition of attacks on civilians, and called for an end to hostilities in Sudan. He advocated for a political solution to resolve the ongoing crisis.
On Friday, a drone strike targeted one of the last operational hospitals in el-Fasher, killing at least 67 people and injuring many others. Since April 2023, the Sudanese army has been in conflict with the paramilitary RSF, which controls much of Darfur. The RSF has laid siege to el-Fasher since May, though army-aligned groups have managed to push back their forces, preventing the city from falling.
