Palestinian Prisoners Released Following Hours-Long Delay

Palestinian Prisoners Released Following Hours-Long Delay

ALWAGHT- Under the ceasefire agreement, 90 Palestinian prisoners have been released from Israeli custody.

On Monday, 90 Palestinian detainees were released from Israel's Ofer prison following an hours-long delay. The release, part of a ceasefire agreement, came after the Palestinian Resistance freed three Israeli female captives held in Gaza. Crowds gathered in Beitunia to welcome the detainees, despite Israeli occupation forces attempting to disrupt the celebrations using force and threats. At least three Palestinians were injured by Israeli gunfire during the gathering, yet the community persisted in welcoming the freed prisoners.

Delays in the release were attributed to discrepancies in the prisoner list provided by Israeli authorities, as reported by the International Committee for the Red Cross (ICRC). The Palestinian Prisoners' Media Office noted that one female prisoner was excluded from the agreed-upon list but assured efforts were underway to address the issue. The release is part of a broader ceasefire agreement that includes the exchange of Palestinian detainees for Israeli captives held in Gaza, marking a significant step after a prolonged Israeli assault.

Among those released was Khalida Jarrar, a prominent leader of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP). Arrested multiple times since 2017, Jarrar had spent the last six months of her detention in solitary confinement under harsh conditions. Her family expressed relief at her release while highlighting the suffering inflicted on Palestinian detainees. Jarrar’s sister called for the complete liberation of all Palestinians held in Israeli prisons.
