ALWAGHT- Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, praised the sacrifices and courage of the Palestinians, highlighting their resistance against months of Israeli aggression, which ultimately led to a ceasefire in Gaza and compelled the regime to retreat.
Ayatollah Khamenei made the statement in a post on his X social media account on Thursday, shortly after the announcement of a long-awaited truce to end 16 months of Israeli aggression in Gaza. "Today, the world saw that the patience of the Palestinian people and the resilience of Palestinian resistance forced the Zionist regime to retreat," the Leader said. He added, "It will be remembered in history that a Zionist group massacred thousands of women and children in the most horrific manner, but in the end, they were defeated."
The ceasefire, mediated by Qatar and Egypt, was announced late Wednesday by Qatari Prime Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani. The agreement, set to take effect Sunday, spans 42 days and is divided into three phases. The deal, which aims to end Israel's brutal onslaught in Gaza, includes a large-scale prisoner exchange, with 1,000 prisoners from Gaza and hundreds of detainees serving long sentences to be released. The first phase will see the release of 33 captives, including women, children, elderly men, and the wounded, along with a partial withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza.
The Israeli offensive in Gaza, launched on October 7, 2023, followed a historic operation by Hamas-led resistance groups in retaliation for Israel's ongoing atrocities against Palestinians. Since the onset of the conflict, the Israeli regime has killed at least 46,707 Palestinians, primarily women and children, and wounded nearly 110,265 others in Gaza.
