ALWAGHT- The spokesperson for Iran’s Foreign Ministry has strongly denounced a “violent” car attack at a bustling Christmas market in Germany, which resulted in multiple fatalities and numerous injuries.
Esmaeil Baghaei expressed his condolences on Saturday to the families of the victims and wished a swift recovery for those injured.
On Friday, a black BMW plowed through a crowded Christmas market in Magdeburg, about 130 kilometers southwest of Berlin, leaving at least five dead and over 200 injured. The market was bustling with customers at the time.
Police detained a 50-year-old Saudi psychiatry doctor at the scene. The suspect resided in Saxony-Anhalt, an eastern state in Germany.
German Chancellor Olaf Scholz on Saturday condemned the car-ramming attack, describing it as a "terrible, insane" act.
In a statement released on Friday via the social media platform X, the Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed "solidarity with the German people and the families of the victims." The ministry also "reaffirmed its rejection of violence."
