IAEA Warned About Potential Anti-Iran Resolution

Alwaght- The Western countries on Thursday passed a resolution against Iran at the IAEA's Board of Governors despite Iran's full cooperation and compliance with the international body. Alwaght discussed the resolution against Iran with former head of Iran's Atomic Energy Organization and parliamentarian Fereydoun Abbasi.

The IAEA, West's instrument to counter Iran as an emerging power

Commenting on the covert and overt motivations behind the Western-pushed resolution against Tehran, Abbasi said that the agency serves as a pressure lever in the hands of the West, adding that the Islamic Republic of Iran is acting in accordance with the instructions it has in negotiations with the agency. The world is currently changing and the structure of the UN has been changing for a long time. Western countries, especially the US and the Britain on top of them have ignored UN resolutions in the past two decades and have attacked any country they wanted, such as Afghanistan and Iraq. They also admitted that they created ISIS through a strategy of proxy wars to destroy the central governments in the region. He added that "countries like Russia have caused trouble for Europe, the US, and the West in general. They thought that after the collapse of the Soviet Union, they could disintegrate Russia and remove it from the political geography. Russia had also given them the necessary warnings for example before having to intervene militarily in Georgia at one point in 2008 because of the challenge of Western-sponsored velvet revolution. In Ukraine, the West also managed to bring its desired government to power and cause many tensions and challenges for the Russian government. Some Western officials even participated in some demonstrations against Russia in Ukraine. Finally, Russia had to attack Ukraine to prevent disintegration and defend its territorial integrity. Accordingly, European officials imposed sanctions on Russia. Of course, before Ukraine war, Russia formed an alliance with Iran, Iraq, and Syria to suppress foreign-backed ISIS and expel terrorists from the region, and all of Russia's actions led to more sanctions and pressure on Moscow and its ally Tehran. At present, since the Islamic Republic is a nascent power in the world and influences the new international relations and new UN structure, the West rushes to use any international instrument including the International Atomic Energy Agency to undermine Iran."

The IAEA submissive to rules of three Western countries

The former chief to Atomic Energy Organization of Iran described the Western obstructions as the reason keeping Iranian nuclear case open. Criticizing the UN structure, Abbasi said: "The West has kept the Iranian nuclear case open for nearly 20 years, and whenever Iran presents evidence of cooperation and compliance with the rules to close the case or cooperates with the agency, the three European countries— Germany, Britain, and France— draft resolutions against Tehran in the Board of Governors. After the resolutions are drafted, Russia and China tone down them in order to protect Iran's interests, but in the end, they are approved, because the agency and the United Nations are designed in such a way that countries obey rules of the three Western countries. We saw that in the recent vote on the resolution against Iran, only the BRICS member countries voted against it. But the rest of the countries voted in favor. 19 countries voted in favor of the resolution proposed by the three European countries, Germany, Britain, and France.

West seeking excuses to prevent lift of sanctions under nuclear deal's sunset article

Continuing his comments, Abbasi said that this resolution is not of very much value and was passed in the past. This resolution is actually a prelude for October 2025, the time of expiration of the 2015 nuclear deal, officially called Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA). Next October is the time of end of sanctions and they do not want to lift pressure from Iran and this is why they devise various excuses like the claim of Iranian missile sales to Russia for use in Ukraine war or help to Lebanese Hezbollah and Yemen's Ansarullah resistance movements.

Iran should think exiting from NPT

Answering the question about Iran's measures in response to the European troika's resolution, Abbasi maintained that Iranian nuclear activities are focused on energy generation and the use of radiation therapy in the medical field, and this doctrine is fixed and foocuses on the use of nuclear energy for medical uses. If there is to be a change in Iran's current nuclear doctrine, it is better to provide legal grounds for this before doing so. "I believe that if we want to focus more deeply on nuclear activities, we should think about withdrawing from the NPT."
