ALWAGHT- Turkey’s ambassador to Iran stated that his country is counting on the Islamic Republic to play a constructive role in improving relations between Ankara and Damascus.
Hicabi Kirlangic discussed the process of restoring relations between Turkey and Syria.
Emphasizing Turkey’s concerns and the need for normalization, the ambassador stressed that Syria must not pose any terror threats. He warned that insisting on the withdrawal of foreign forces, including Turkish troops, could lead to chaos exacerbated by the US in the region.
Kirlangic pointed out that various terrorist groups in Syria are receiving overt support from the US, and Turkey maintains a clear stance on this issue.
He stated, "We are seeking to establish relations with Syria and consider Iran’s role crucial for continuing dialogues with Syrian officials."
Kirlangic emphasized that Turkey requires "Iran’s constructive role" concerning Syria and noted that Turkey and Iran are in ongoing contact and joint efforts on this matter.
He expressed hope that Turkey and Iran can advance their cooperation, given the region’s current challenges. "We must make our own decisions and work to establish and stabilize peace in the region. Both Iran and Turkey have significant roles to play. Specifically, improved relations between Iran and Syria could encourage Syria to pursue peace with Turkey," Kirlangic said.
The ambassador reaffirmed that Turkey does not seek to interfere in other countries' territories but aims solely to secure its own safety through appropriate measures.
He underscored Turkey's commitment to Syria’s territorial integrity and warned that Syria's disintegration would worsen the regional crisis. "Turkey always prioritizes the protection of Syria’s territorial integrity," he added.
