Iranian Ministerial Nominee Shatters Expectations for JCPOA Revival

ALWAGHT- A lawmaker stated that the Iranian president's nominee for foreign minister has dismissed the possibility of reviving the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).

The vice chairman of the Iranian Parliament’s Social Commission, Mohsen Fathi, shared details of a meeting held on Tuesday evening with Abbas Araghchi. During the meeting, the proposed foreign minister discussed the 2015 nuclear deal, stating that "reviving the JCPOA is no longer possible."

Fathi explained that Araghchi made it clear the new administration's Foreign Ministry would not prioritize the JCPOA’s revival. Instead, it would focus on lifting sanctions through a strategy that combines diplomacy and field efforts. Araghchi also conveyed to the MPs that while hostilities with the US will never fully end, Iran can manage the conflict in a way that minimizes harm to the Iranian people by neutralizing and circumventing sanctions.

Araghchi, who previously served as deputy foreign minister under former President Hassan Rouhani and played a key role in the 2015 JCPOA negotiations, is expected to lead the Foreign Ministry after securing a vote of confidence from Parliament in the coming days.
