ALWAGHT- On Sunday, US President Joe Biden announced his decision to withdraw from the 2024 presidential race against Donald Trump.
"Although my intention was to seek reelection, I believe stepping down and focusing solely on my presidential duties for the remainder of my term is in the best interest of my party and the country," Biden announced in a statement posted on X.
Biden also endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris as the Democratic candidate for the 2024 election. "Today, I offer my full support and endorsement for Kamala to be our party's nominee this year," he added, also via X.
Trump responded to Biden's decision with harsh criticism, stating, "He will go down in US history as the worst president ever."
Following Biden's poor performance in the first campaign debate against his Republican rival in June, reports surfaced suggesting that Democrats were pressuring him to withdraw from the race.
