ALWAGHT- Iran proposed nine "practical measures" for the Developing Eight (D8) countries to collectively support the Palestinian people and counter the Israeli regime's assault on Gaza.
During a foreign ministerial meeting of the D8 countries in Istanbul on Saturday, Iran's caretaker foreign minister proposed nine practical measures for the D8 to support Palestine.
Ali Bagheri suggested the creation of a D8 assistance plan for Palestine to coordinate collective action by the D8 members in aiding Palestine's development and reconstruction.
The Iranian diplomat also recommended that the D8 convene an international conference on Gaza's reconstruction and establish an Islamic fund to receive financial support from Muslim nations.
Iran's proposals included the formation of a D8 contact group to coordinate with the OIC contact group on international efforts to end the war in Gaza. Other suggestions were severing and suspending political and economic relations with the Zionist regime, designating the Zionist regime and its security organizations as “terrorist entities” for their war crimes, genocide, and human rights violations.
Bagheri also urged the D8 to recognize the Zionist regime as an apartheid entity, work to revive UNSC Resolution 3379, and support comprehensive Palestinian negotiations to achieve consensus among all Palestinian groups regarding the administration of Palestinian territories post-war.
He suggested that the D8 advocate for the suspension of the Zionist regime from international institutions and events, including expelling it from the upcoming Olympic Games in Paris.
Additionally, Bagheri proposed establishing a joint legal committee within the D8 to provide judicial and legal support for Palestine in international tribunals.
Since October 7, 2023, Israel's assault on Gaza has resulted in at least 36,801 deaths and 83,680 injuries.
