ALWAGHT- Dutch police forcefully dispersed a pro-Palestinian demonstration camp at the University of Amsterdam, resulting in the arrest of 125 students.
According to the Dutch public broadcaster NOS, riot police dismantled the encampment, where protesters had erected barricades using wooden pallets and bicycles, during the early hours of Tuesday. Footage from the scene depicted police employing a mechanical digger to remove barricades while officers were seen instructing, rather than beating, the demonstrators with batons.
Dutch education minister Robbert Dijkgraaf remarked that universities should serve as hubs for dialogue and expressed regret over the necessity for police intervention.
Pro-Palestinian demonstrators established the camp, urging the University of Amsterdam to cut its connections with Israel due to its genocidal actions in the Gaza Strip.
In recent weeks, solidarity protests with Palestinians in Gaza have proliferated on university campuses globally, including in the United States, with participants advocating for colleges to disinvest from companies that endorse the Israeli government.
