Iran’s Harmed Veterans Need Drugs: Diplomat

Iran’s Harmed Veterans Need Drugs: Diplomat

Alwaght- Meeting the Head of the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW), Iran's Deputy Foreign Minister for Legal and International Affairs talked about the obstacles in supplying medications to the Iranian veterans suffering from Western-provided chemical weapons Saddam Hussein used in the war on Iran in the 1980s.

Iran's Reza Najafi referred on Thursday to the sanctions against Iran and told Fernando Arias that the sanctions have made it difficult for Iran's chemically-hurt veterans to access the necessary equipment and medicines, reported Iran Press.

He noted that the imposition of such sanctions is against the provisions of the Chemical Weapons Convention and international laws.

Najafi also appreciated Arias over the past efforts of the OPCW to provide the chemically-hurt veterans with full access to the relevant drugs and equipment and the neutralization of the sanctions, calling for the continuation of the efforts.

Reza Najafi has traveled to the Netherlands to participate in the 27th conference of member states of the Chemical Weapons Convention.

Iran is the biggest victim of the systematic use of chemical weapons in modern history.

Germany provided Iraqi dictator Saddam with WMDs, including technology, to build chemical weapons during a war he waged on the newly-established Islamic Republic that replaced pro-Western monarchy.
