Alwaght- Iran's Foreign Minister Hussein Amir-Abdollahian on Wednesday tweeted he signed the Shanghai Cooperation Organization's obligations document.
"Tonight, in the historical city of Samarkand, I signed the memorandum of commitment for the permanent membership of the Islamic Republic of Iran in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization with the Secretary General," his tweet read.
The FM is accompanying President Raisi in a visit to Samarkand, Uzbekistan for the SCO summit.
The document is another step closer to full accession of Iran to the major economic bloc.
"Now we have entered a new stage of various economic, commercial, transit, energy, etc. cooperations," he continued.
The Islamic Republic is enhancing its trade with the regional countries as a priority to the administration of President Sayed Ibrahim Raisi.
President Raisi seeks to neutralize the West sanctions using economic ties with friendly nations and blocs, on top of them the SCO.
The bloc is a major bulwark in the face of the Western pressures for other members like Russia. Tehran and Moscow are working to reinforce their economic exchanges with others using the potentials of the organization.
The SCO is an intergovernmental organization that was established in 2001 by the leaders of China, Russia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan with the aim of multilateral security, economic and cultural cooperation. Mongolia in 2004 and a year later Iran, Pakistan, India and Afghanistan, and after that Belarus, joined this organization as observer members. India and Pakistan became permanent members of this organization in the summer of 2016.
Last year, Iran was approved as a full member at Dushanbe summit of the organization.
