Alwaght-Israeli regime forces early Thursday abducted Sheikh Omar al-Barghouthi, a senior Palestinian Islamic Resistance Movement, Hamas official.
Sheikh al-Barghouthi , a prominent figure of Hamas was kidnapped from his home in Koubar town, northwest of Ramallah in the occupied West Bank.
Sheikh Barghouthi was kidnapped as part of a renewed arrest campaign that was launched overnight by the Israeli regime forces in different West Bank areas and led to the detention of several Hamas cadres and supporters.
Sheikh Barghouthi, a father of six sons and daughters, had spent about 27 years in Israeli jails and was known as the Sheikh of the prisoners.
Elsewhere Israeli regime forces, on Wednesday, abducted at least 41 Palestinians, including minors, during predawn raids and searches in various West Bank districts, according to security sources and the Palestinian Prisoners’ Society.
Meanwhile, PPS said that at least 16 Palestinians, mostly minors, were detained by Israeli forces in occupied al Quds (Jerusalem) during the past 24 hours.
Reports say over 7,000 Palestinians are being held in 17 notorious Israeli prisons and detention centers. More than 400 Palestinians are currently under Administrative Detention, the policy of arrest and detention of individuals without charge or trial. Additionally The Palestinian Prisoners Society says a total of 230 Palestinian children are in Israeli regime detention, where they are subjected to physical and psychological torture. The children are also denied basic rights such as the right to family visits and legal representation.
