Iraq Launches Summit aimed at Easing Regional Tensions

Alwaght- Iraq launched a summit on Saturday aimed at easing tensions in the West Asia region, with the participation of heads and officials of regional countries plus French president.

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi and Jordan's King Abdullah II are also due to attend the summit, while the foreign ministers of regional rivals Iran and Saudi Arabia will also be present.

Iranian new Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian arrived in Baghdad on Saturday at the head of a delegation to attend the Baghdad International Conference "For Cooperation and Participation".

This is Amir-Abdollahian's first visit to Iraq as the Iranian foreign minister since he was approved for the post in the administration of Iran's new President Ebrahim Raeisi.

Iraq seeks to play a "unifying role" to tackle crises shaking the region, sources close to Iraqi Al-Kadhemi have said.
