Alwaght- Tehran will immediately review its decision to reduce its commitments to the nuclear deal if Washington lifts the "illegitimate" sanctions on the Islamic Republic, said spokesman to the Iranian foreign ministry Saeed Khatibzadeh.
Reiterating that Iran's nuclear program is "peaceful", Khatibzadeh told Aljazeera news network that the program has never sought military aspects and the uranium enrichment is under supervision of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
"The right to cut nuclear commitments is guaranteed under the deal if the other side does not respect its promises. If Washington fulfills its commitments and lifts the sanctions, we will quit reduction of our compliance with the terms of the agreement."
Earlier he said that should the US and Europe take practical steps to respect the 2015 accord, Tehran will automatically reverse its measures and there would be no need to talks for the American return to the nuclear deal.
Diplomacy is the way of choice to solve the problems with the US, he said, adding Tehran will appropriately respond to any initiative.
"But we do not see change in the US policy. It was the US that violated and abandoned the deal without negotiating the exit with any country," he further held.
Previous US President Donald Trump withdrew from the hard-achieved deal in May 2018 and reimposed the economic sanctions. His withdrawal ushered in a period of "maximum pressure" campaign against Iran spearheaded by his hawkish Secretary of State Mike Pompeo. The campaign saw the White House mobilizing all of its resources and relations to bring the Islamic Republic to its knees. This did not happen, however.
Biden coming to power was expected to change the US policy, at least towards Iran. But the US seemed so stubborn to change.
New Iranian President Sayed Ibrahim Raisi said that Iran is ready to go to a seventh round of meetings discussing the US return but wants the talks purely nuclear and is not going to negotiate its role in the region or its defensive missile program.
