Alwaght- A senior Iranian security official says the ISIS terrorist group is serving US and Israeli regime interests in the region.
Secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council Ali Shamkhani added that the US does not intend to destroy the ISIS terrorist group, noting that Washington is using the terrorist group to justify its long-term presence in the Western Asia region and in Muslim nations.
He made the remarks in Tehran on Tuesday during a meeting with Chairman of the Islamic Supreme Council of Iraq (ISCI) Ammar Hakim.
Shamkhani said scandalous revelations about the US trained and armed new terrorist groups deployed to Syria pledging allegiance to al-Qaeda showed that Washington uses terrorism as an instrument to achieve its own objectives.
"Daesh (ISIS) is a seditious political group that is trying to sow discord in the name of religion and pursue the interests of the Zionist regime,” added Shamkhani.
He urged the Iraqi government and army to engage in intensive efforts to annihilate this regional threat.
Shamkhani further applauded the alertness of the Iraqi government and nation in preserving the country’s territorial integrity and national unity in the face of foreign plots hatched to partition Iraq and plunder its massive resources.
He pointed out that “Iraq has always been a good example of unity and Shiite-Sunni coexistence as well as [coexistence between] other religions.”
For his part, Hakim said Iraq would resolutely resist foreign plots, which are all aimed at fueling discord.
The Iraqi official commended the assistance offered by Iran and Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei to Iraq in its war against Takfiri terrorism.
Hakim added that that Iraq will eventually emerge victorious against terrorist groups, noting that Baghdad will make rapid progress in this regard.
