Alwaght- Russian Special Forces and several aircraft technicians have reportedly arrived in the southern countryside of Syria's Idlib.

Al-Masdar news portal cited an unnamed military source in northern Hama as saying that, the Russian Special Forces and the aircraft technicians arrived at the Abu Dhuhour Airport in southern Idlib, joining by several personnel from the Syrian army as well.

The military source added that the Abu Dhuhour Airport will be used during the Idlib offensive as an operations room by both the Syrian Army and Russian military.

The Lebanon base news website also cited military sources as saying that the Syrian Army and their allies will enter the southern countryside of the Idlib Governorate after they complete their Hama offensive.

According to the military source, the Syrian Arab Army will build a buffer-zone around the northern Hama axis in order to prevent any future attacks on the provincial capital and strategic town of Mhardeh.

The military source continued that the Syrian Army and their allies have no plans as of now to push to the Idlib Governorate’s provincial capital nor do they plan on advancing past the historical city of Ma’arat Al-Nu’man.

Late last month, Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad pointed out that the liberation of Idlib, which sits on the border with Turkey, was among the priorities for the Syrian military’s operations.

Since 2017, the Idlib province has been included in the northern de-escalation zone created under the Astana reconciliation process. Most of the province is currently occupied by a disparate collection of militant groups, including al-Qaeda's Syrian branch al-Nusra Front.

With the liberation of broad areas of southern Syria earlier this month, Idlib has become one of the last anti-government strongholds in Syria.
