Alwaght- An Yemeni official at Al-Hudaydah seaport said on Saturday the continued closure of the key port may lead to a humanitarian disaster, rejecting reports that Saudi imposed blockade has been lifted.
Mohammad Abu Bakr Saqqaf denied all the reports which mentioned that aid ships arrived at the Al-Hudaydah and Saleef seaports and accusing the command of the Saudi aggression of deceiving the world.
Saqqaf also demanded that the UN and the human rights organizations press on the Saudi authorities to open Al-Hudaydah seaport because it is the lifeline of millions of Yemenis.
The Saudi-led military coalition has been continuously pounding Yemen since March 2015 in an attempt to crush the popular Ansarullah movement and reinstate the former fugitive president, Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi, a staunch ally of the regime in Riyadh.
According to the latest figures, the war has so far killed over 13,000 Yemenis and wounded thousands more. The Saudi aggression has also taken a heavy toll on the country's facilities and infrastructure, destroying many hospitals, schools, and factories.
Riyadh imposed a tight blockade on nearly all Yemeni air, land and sea ports on November 6, prompting human rights and charity groups to raise the alarm over deteriorating situation in the country as people, particularly children, are increasingly suffering from the lack of food and medical supplies.
Last week, the heads of three UN agencies issued a fresh plea for the Saudi-led military coalition to lift its inhuman blockade on Yemen.
Without aid shipments, “untold thousands of innocent victims, among them many children, will die,” the heads of the World Food Program, UNICEF and the World Health Organization said.
According to WFP, out of a population of 26 million, some 17 million Yemenis do not know where their next meal is coming from and seven million are totally dependent on food aid.
