ALWAGHT- According to Iran’s senior diplomat, Tunisia occupies a special and significant role in the country’s foreign relations.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi highlighted Tunisia’s significant role in Iran’s foreign policy, describing the relationship as rooted in history, brotherhood, mutual respect, and shared cultural and religious values. He noted that ties between the two countries have developed positively and dynamically in recent years, reflecting a firm determination to strengthen bilateral cooperation.
Araghchi emphasized that Iran and Tunisia have maintained over six decades of diplomatic relations characterized by friendship, understanding, and solidarity. Even during regional turbulence, the relationship has remained cordial, with key moments such as Tunisian President Kais Saied’s visit to Iran marking a turning point in comprehensive cooperation and shared commitment to deepening ties.
The Iranian minister praised Tunisia’s support during recent Israeli aggression on Iranian soil, highlighting the countries’ shared opposition to foreign interference, support for the Palestinian cause, and rejection of normalization with Israel. While political relations are strong, Araghchi acknowledged that economic cooperation has untapped potential, and both sides are committed to expanding trade and diversifying economic ties for a promising future.
