Alwaght- Yemen's fugitive President Abd Rabbu Mansur Hadi has downplayed United Nations-facilitated Yemeni-Yemeni consultations, set to start on 14 June, saying they will only address ways to implement UN Security Council resolution 2216 adopted on 14 April 2015.
Two days after UN issued a statement in which the Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon welcomed the readiness of Mansur Hadi to send a delegation to participate in United Nations-backed talks in Geneva, Hadi in an interview with the Saudi-owned al-Arabiya TV downplayed this talks saying that "These are not talks, it is only a discussion to implement U.N. Security Council resolution 2216, how to implement it on the ground," Hadi said.
The UN chief had earlier called for a postponement in the consultations, which were originally set for 28 May, and has repeatedly urged all parties in Yemen to return to the negotiating table.
However, despite Ban Ki-moon's urgent call on all Yemeni parties to engage in these consultations without pre-conditions, Yemeni fugitive president and his host, Saudi regime, have insisted that any talks will center on the Security Council resolution.
While Ban's statement emphasizes that "such assistance (14th talks) is of paramount and pressing importance because the suffering of the Yemeni population, as a result of the continued conflict, is increasing dramatically", Hadi denies the United Nations-sponsored meeting as a wider reconciliation or finding a political compromise to end the conflict.
