Alwaght- Syrian army and allied forces on Sunday advanced further in Deir Ez-Zor, expanding the areas they had established control over a day earlier.

Hezbollah Military Media Center reported that the allied forces expanded the area they had breached on Saturday to reach Deir Ez-Zor airbase, where they met the airbase’s guards and broke the siege imposed by ISIS.

The media center added that the Syrian army units were working on Sunday to dismantle mines planted by ISIS terrorists alongside the road linking the city of Deir Ez-Zor with the airbase.

The allied forces also managed to completely control the international Highway linking Deir Ez-Zor with Damascus. The strategic road also passes through Sukhna and Palamyra cities.

Syria's official news agency, SANA, meanwhile reported that heavy losses were inflicted upon ISIS terrorists, quoting civil sources from Deir Ez-Zor countryside as confirming that large groups of ISIS terrorists including some of their prominent leaders fled away.

The sources added that ISIS terrorist group sacked several of its commanders and executed about 27 of its members on charges of mass escape from the city of Al-Bukmal and the villages of Hasrat, al-Jalaa and al-Salihyia.

Last week Syrian army troops, backed by allied fighters from popular defense groups, have managed to break a nearly three-year siege imposed by ISIS Takfiri terrorists on a strategic airbase in the eastern city of Deir Ez-Zor as they continue to make substantial gains against the extremists.

The conflict in Syria started in March 2011, with the government of President Bashar al Assad blaming some Western states, especially the US and their regional allies, including Saudi Arabia, of backing Takfiri terrorists wreaking havoc in the country.
