Iran Lodges Complaint at UN Security Council against US

Iranian Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani

Iran has filed a complaint with the UN Security Council over the sanctions imposed by the US on the Islamic Republic, Parliament Speaker said Tuesday.

Alwaght- Iran has filed a complaint with the UN Security Council over the sanctions imposed by the US on the Islamic Republic, Parliament Speaker said Tuesday.

Tasnim News cited Ali Larijani as saying that The Iranian committee monitoring the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) implementation came up with the conclusion that the US Congress decision to impose new sanctions on Tehran was the violation of the 2015 nuclear agreement between Iran and the Group 5+1.

The Parliament Speaker told journalists that in addition to taking diplomatic actions against US new sanctions, "Iran has complained to the U.N. Security Council for the breach of the JCPOA by America".

Last week, the US Senate voted overwhelmingly to impose new sanctions against Iran, Russia and North Korea on Thursday. The Republican-controlled House of Representatives had already passed the bill in a 419-3 vote.

Iran and the Group 5+1 reached the 159-page nuclear agreement in July 2015 and implemented it in January 2016.

Many experts have slammed the US Congress’ move as a breach of both the text and the spirit of the JCPOA.
