Alwaght- The UK’s new aircraft carrier as is a “convenient target” the Russian Defense Ministry said in statement on Thursday, snapping back at Britain’s disparaging comments about Russian aircraft carrier, the Admiral Kuznetsov.
Russia’s Defense Ministry spokesman Igor Konashenkov called Britain’s HMS Queen Elizabeth carrier “a convenient oversized target at sea,” and described as “arrogant” the comments by British Defense Minister Michael Fallon, who had labeled the Admiral Kuznetsov as “dilapidated.”
“Unlike the Admiral Kuznetsov, which is equipped with anti-aircraft and anti-submarine missiles and especially Granit missiles to hit ships, the British aircraft carrier is nothing but a big, convenient target in the sea,” Konashenkov said.
“With this in mind, it is in the interest of the British Royal Navy not to show off the beauty of its aircraft carrier in open waters any closer than from several hundred miles,” the ministry spokesman added.
The new British vessel, which cost 3.8 billion dollars to build, is the largest and most powerful ship ever built for the British navy.
The Soviet-era Admiral Kuznetsov (pictured below), which can carry more than 40 naval aviation aircraft, led a task force that played a key role in providing cover for the Syrian military forces during their operations against the foreign-backed terrorist groups wreaking havoc in Syria over the past weeks.
In December last year, Syria retook its northwestern city of Aleppo from Takfiri terrorist groups in the biggest blow to the outfits and their foreign supporters since militancy began in the country in 2011.
