Syrians Hold the Right to Shape Their Country’s Future: UN Chief

ALWAGHT- UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres stated on Sunday that Syria's future must be decided by its people, emphasizing the need for significant efforts to facilitate an orderly political transition and the renewal of national institutions.

The UN Secretary-General reiterated his call for "calm and the avoidance of violence during this sensitive period, while safeguarding the rights of all Syrians, without distinction."

He stressed that the inviolability of diplomatic and consular premises and personnel must be upheld in all cases, in accordance with international law.

Guterres also highlighted the need for international support to ensure that any political transition in Syria is inclusive, comprehensive, and aligned with the legitimate aspirations of the diverse Syrian people. He emphasized that Syria's sovereignty, unity, independence, and territorial integrity must be fully restored.

"We remain committed to assisting Syrians in building a country where reconciliation, justice, freedom, and prosperity are shared by all. This is the path to lasting peace in Syria," Guterres added.
