ALWAGHT- Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has accused the United States and Israel of fueling a surge in terrorist activities in northern Syria, urging swift and decisive international action to address the resurgence of Takfiri groups in the country.
Araghchi addressed the 28th meeting of the Council of Ministers of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) in Mashhad, northeastern Iran, on Tuesday.
The Iranian Foreign Minister condemned the Zionist regime's continued atrocities against Palestinians in Gaza and its crimes against Lebanon, describing them as unprecedented and ruthless. He also criticized the resurgence of Takfiri terrorist groups in Syria following a ceasefire between Hezbollah and Israel, accusing the US and Tel Aviv of aiding the terrorists. Araghchi called for regional "vigilance and coordination" and urged the international community to take swift and decisive action against the renewed threat of terrorism in Syria.
He highlighted recent attacks led by the Takfiri Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) group in Aleppo and Idlib provinces, which resulted in the capture of several towns and villages before advancing into Aleppo on November 27. Syria, embroiled in foreign-backed militancy since 2011, has repeatedly criticized Western nations and their regional allies for supporting terrorist factions that destabilize the country.
Araghchi further accused Israel of being a primary backer of groups opposing President Bashar al-Assad’s government, emphasizing that terrorist organizations aim to derail Syria’s efforts to restore security and stability, often operating under the umbrella of Israeli aggression.
