Iran Backs Cuba in Opposition to US Sanctions, Says Foreign Minister

ALWAGHT- Condemning the US decision to label Cuba as a so-called state sponsor of terrorism, the Iranian foreign minister reaffirmed Tehran's support for Havana in the face of American sanctions.

“We are prepared to work with Cuba to enhance bilateral relations across all sectors,” Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi stated during a meeting with his Cuban counterpart Bruno Rodriguez Parrilla on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York on Saturday.

Araghchi criticized the US Congress for its politically motivated decision to place Cuba on the list of state sponsors of terrorism, describing it as part of the broader hostile US policies. He expressed solidarity with the Cuban people, noting, “As victims of US sanctions ourselves, we fully understand their situation and support Cuba against the embargoes.”

The Iranian foreign minister also discussed recent developments in West Asia, highlighting that the Israeli regime's actions in Gaza and Lebanon stem from desperation due to its failures in Gaza.

In response, the Cuban foreign minister expressed support for strengthening ties with Tehran in economic, academic, and scientific areas. He also reiterated Cuba's backing of Iran against US hostility and welcomed the establishment of a joint economic commission, emphasizing the importance of continued economic cooperation between the two nations.
