Alwaght- Syria and Morocco have strongly condemned the Israeli regime’s recent large-scale attacks on Palestinian worshippers at al-Aqsa Mosque’s compound in the occupied city of al-Quds.
On Saturday, the official Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) cited an official source at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates as condemning the Israel's attacks against Palestinians in the strongest terms.
“Syria follows with deep concern the dangerous and extremely important events and developments” in al-Quds, the official said.
This came after Israeli forces stormed the al-Aqsa Mosque compound in the al-Quds’ Old City on Friday, injuring more than 150 worshipers. Witnesses said Palestinians threw stones at Israeli forces, who fired rubber-coated bullets and deployed stun grenades against them.
"Syria condemns the inhumane Israeli attacks on Palestinian civilians, which injured hundreds of them, in addition to arresting hundreds others who are defending the sanctity of al-Aqsa and are confronting the attacks by extremists and Israeli settlers who plan to storm al-Aqsa under the protection of the occupying forces," the Syrian foreign ministry said.
Damascus also censured the international community’s “doubtful silence” on the Zionist regime's atrocities, and the “unjustified inaction” of the international organizations concerning the developments in the occupied territories as well as the United States’ “unlimited support” for such practices.
No amount of aggression on the part of the Israeli regime “will change the deep-rooted historical facts since Israel is the side that poses threat to regional and international peace and security,” the Syrian official was quoted as saying.
Morocco expresses "firm condemnation" of Israel's violations in al-Quds
Also on Saturday, a statement by the Moroccan Foreign Ministry conveyed the kingdom’s "firm condemnation of the incursion by Israeli occupation forces into the al-Aqsa Mosque, their closure of its gates, and their aggression against unarmed worshippers in the mosque’s compound.”
Morocco said it believes that this flagrant aggression and deliberate provocation during the fasting month of Ramadan would only inflame hatred, the statement added.
The Moroccan Foreign Ministry called on the United Nations and the international community to "intervene urgently to put a stop to these violations and aggressions against the Palestinian people."
Israel has stepped up its deadly aggression across the Palestinian territories since the start of the holy month of Ramadan, triggering Palestinians to ramp up their resistance operations in response.
Mass rallies have been held across the Muslim world in solidarity with the oppressed people of Palestine after Israeli forces on Friday barged inside the al-Aqsa Mosque and brutally assaulted the Palestinian worshippers.
In Turkey's most populous city of Istanbul, protesters converged outside the Israeli consulate early on Saturday, waving Palestinian flags and calling for the Arab and international support for al-Aqsa Mosque worshippers.
In the Jordanian capital of Amman, hundreds of people demonstrated near the Israeli embassy to show support for Palestinians.
The Iraqi Foreign Ministry and anti-terror resistance groups also denounced the desecration of the al-Aqsa Mosque compound and injury to dozens of Palestinians following the use of excessive force by Israeli forces.
Earlier on Saturday, Iran also lashed out at the Israeli regime for desecrating al-Aqsa Mosque, urging Muslim nations to stand united behind the Palestinian cause.
In a post on his Twitter account on Saturday, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Saeed Khatibzadeh expressed outrage over the Israeli regime's new atrocities in al-Aqsa Mosque and warned against the consequences of some Arab countries' move to normalize relations with the Tel Aviv regime.
In a Friday phone call with Ismail Haniyeh, head of the political bureau of the Palestinian resistance movement Hamas, Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian denounced the Israeli regime’s attack at al-Aqsa Mosque, saying resistance is alive while the Zionists are in desperation.
“Undoubtedly, the Zionist regime has become too weak to withstand the uprising of the Palestinian people and the resistance that created the epic of Operation al-Quds Sword,” Amir-Abdollahian said.
Egyptian outraged over Israel-organized festival in Sinai
In another development on Saturday, Israeli-organized dance festivals in Egypt’s Sinai sparked outrage in the country as they come just days before the anniversary of the end of the regime’s occupation of the peninsula.
The Nabia and Grounded festivals, which coincide with the Passover holiday, also come as Muslims observe a daytime fast during the holy month of Ramadan.
The Egyptian branch of the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) movement, which opposes Israel's occupation of Palestinian territories, has called for a boycott of the festival's venues.
"As we do every year, we were preparing to celebrate... the stories of the heroic resistance, but we discovered that the Zionist occupation was returning to the Sinai," the branch said in a statement on Wednesday.
April 25 is the anniversary of Israel's withdrawal from most of the Sinai in 1982 under a 1979 peace agreement, which effectively ended the regime’s occupation of the peninsula that began during the Six-Day War of 1967.
Egyptian Facebook user Farah Mourad complained that the festivals are taking place ahead of "Sinai Liberation Day... and during the holy month of Ramadan."
She also pointed to the recent Israeli violations at the al-Aqsa mosque compound, saying Israeli forces had attacked Palestinian civilians.
