ALWAGHT- Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi reiterated Tehran’s firm support for Venezuela, stressing the country’s backing as Caracas confronts growing political pressure and military threats from the United States.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi spoke by phone with his Venezuelan counterpart Yvan Gil Pinto, where the two discussed bilateral ties and the latest regional developments. Gil Pinto outlined the situation in the Caribbean amid heightened US threats and illegal claims, while expressing appreciation for Iran’s continued support. He also reaffirmed Venezuela’s determination to defend its sovereignty against American pressure.
Araghchi condemned what he described as Washington’s “baseless accusations” and threats of force, warning that US unilateral actions endanger global peace and stability. He reiterated Tehran’s unwavering solidarity with the Venezuelan government and people, stressing that Iran stands firmly by Caracas in the face of growing political and military pressure.
The talks came as the United States deployed three naval destroyers off Venezuela’s coast under the banner of counter-narcotics operations, while tightening sanctions and raising the bounty on President Nicolas Maduro. Against this backdrop, Iran and Venezuela — both heavily sanctioned by Washington — have deepened cooperation in energy, trade, and technology, presenting themselves as partners resisting US hegemony.
