ALWAGHT- Iran and the European troika will begin a new round of nuclear negotiations in Geneva on Tuesday, August 26, a source reported.
Iran and the European troika (UK, France, and Germany) are set to hold a new round of talks focused on nuclear issues and the lifting of anti-Iran sanctions. The Iranian delegation will be headed by Deputy Foreign Minister Majid Takht Ravanchi.
Ahead of the talks, Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi spoke with his European counterparts and the EU’s foreign policy chief, warning that any attempt to invoke the 2015 nuclear deal’s snapback mechanism would be “legally baseless, morally unjustified, and carry serious consequences.” He stressed that the three European states have no authority to activate the mechanism.
Araghchi also rejected European suggestions to extend UN Security Council Resolution 2231, insisting such decisions fall solely under the Security Council’s jurisdiction. While Tehran reaffirmed its stance, the EU3 and the EU’s foreign policy chief emphasized their continued commitment to a diplomatic solution.
