ISIS Claims Responsibility of Philippines Capital Attack

Resorts World hotel in Manila after an attack by ISIS

ISIS Takfiri terrorist group has claimed responsibility an attack on a Philippines hotel and resort complex in the capital Manila.

Alwaght- ISIS terrorist group has claimed responsibility for an attack on a Philippines hotel and resort complex in the capital Manila.

Resorts World Manila, a massive leisure complex next to the Filipino capital’s international airport, remains on lockdown after reports of a shooter running rampage inside one of its hotels. Local media reports indicate that at least 25 people have been injured. Unconfirmed reports say at least two people have been killed in the skirmishes.

ISIS has claimed responsibility for the attack, via a channel it normally uses to report on its uprising against the government in the province of Marawi.

Police, fire engines and a commando unit were in the area around Resorts World in Manila after masked, armed men attacked the hotel in the Pasay City area.

Resorts World Manila said on Twitter: "Resorts World Manila is currently on lockdown following reports of gunfire from unidentified men.

"The company is working closely with the Philippine National Police to ensure that all guests and employees are safe. We ask for your prayers during these difficult times."

This latest attack comes amid an ongoing siege in the predominantly Muslims city of Marawi, 830 kilometers south of Manila which started as a response to a botched military operation to capture wanted ISIS ringleader Isnilon Hapilon.

Fighters from the pro-ISIS Maute group are clinging to the heart of the city, threatening to kill hostages, despite air and ground attacks by security forces for an eighth day with over 100 dead so far.

Philippine president Rodrigo Duterte, who has declared martial law across Mindanao, ruled out negotiating with the militants, calling them terrorists.

Meanwhile, Philippine military airstrikes aimed at ISIS terrorists in Marawi killed 11 of their own soldiers and injured seven others, Brig. Gen. Restituto Padilla, spokesperson of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), said in a news conference on Thursday.

About 2,000 civilians are also trapped in the militant-held areas, according to the local government.
