What Drives Are Taking Iraq’s Al-Hakim to Egypt?

Alwaght- Iraq’s National Coalition Chief Sayyed Ammar Al-Hakim has met Egypt's Sheikh Ahmad Al-Tayyeb, the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar have called for concerted efforts to fight extremism and terrorism.

During a meeting on Wednesday in Cairo, the two sides stressed the importance of fighting terrorism and extremism while consolidating the cooperation between the Al-Azhar and Najaf religious centers.

During the meeting Sayyed Hakim stressed that the Popular Mobilization Forces (al-Hashd al-Shaabi) in Iraq are national and joined by the various Iraqi segments, noting that the PMF units fight ISIS terrorists with one hand and help the refugees with the other.

Sayyed Hakim also confirmed that Iraqi is ahead of an ultimate victory over the ISIS terrorist group.

On Tuesday Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi met with Ammar Al-Hakim in Cairo on Tuesday for talks about Iraq and other issues.

According to a statement issued by the Egyptian presidency, the Egyptian president and the high ranking Shiite scholar in Iraq discussed the latest developments in Iraq, especially the latest victories of the Iraqi army, against the IS militant group as well Egyptian-Iraqi bilateral relations.

El-Sisi and Al-Hakim also discussed the efforts to reach a political settlement among different sects in Iraq.

Egypt’s Foreign Ministry has described Al-Hakim's visit as part of Cairo’s openness to different trends with respect to Iraq.
