Alwaght- Hundreds of refugee children have gone missing after entering UK since the start of the new wave of refugees crossing European borders, the British Independent Newspaper reported.
The fate of many of these children has been unknown for about two year, increasing concerns that they may have fallen victim to human traffickers or other forms of exploitation.
In last five years more than 9 thousands children have entered UK seeking asylum as “unaccompanied minor” but the British authorities have no information on the whereabouts of 360 of them.
Of these, 81 of the children have been missing for five years, a further 77 children have been missing for four years and another 87 children have been missing for three years, the newspaper reported citing authorities and British MPs.
The shockingly low number of children granted asylum during the three months of 2016 shows that “UK is failing to provide adequate support to ensure their safety once they arrive,” repot added.
Earlier this year, Europol reported that at least 10 thousands children have been gone missing after registering in EU countries, half of them in Italy and one thousand others in Sweden.
