Alwaght- Inaction of International Committee of Red Cross (ICRC) in the case of a Palestinian prisoner who is on hunger strike took protesters to the streets of West Bank.
The protests forced ICRC to temporarily close its headquarters in the city of Ramallah on Wednesday.
Scented to 14 and a half years in prison for membership in the Popular Front of the Liberation of Palestine, Bilal Kayed was supposed to be released in June but instead Israel put him under “administrative detention,” a sort of imprisonment without trial or charge that allows the Tel Aviv regime to incarcerate Palestinians for up to six months, extendable indefinitely.
Kayed, 35, has been on hunger strike for more than 70 days now seeking justice in his case. He had stressed on continuing his strike in a letter to his family and friends the day before protests.
He is in critical conditions unable to move or speak, his lawyer said. His mother is banned from weekly visits and his lawyer says Israeli authorities refuse to un-cuff him from hospital bed.
Israel is holding more than 7 thousands prisoners, many of them children, in its prison. Inaction of international organizations in face of severe prison conditions and unjustified imprisonment of Palestinians has caused numerous protests around the world.
