Alwaght- Leader of Islamic Republic of Iran Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei emphasized Tehran will never withdraw from distancing itself from the US.
"Keeping a distance from the head of the arrogant movement, i.e. the US, is one of the most important definitive principles of the great founder of the Islamic Republic (the late Imam Khomeini) and there is no room for any compromise or negligence in this regard,” Press TV cited Ayatollah Khamenei as saying in a meeting with Iran’s Intelligence Minister Mahmoud Alavi and other senior personnel of the ministry on Tuesday.
Anti-American sentiment in Iran is not new and Iranian nation has always viewed the US as its top geopolitical, strategic and ideological enemy; the chant "Death to America" has been in use in Iran since at least the Islamic revolution in 1979.
The term Great Satan, a derogatory epithet for the US, was originally used by Late Iranian leader Imam Khomeini in his speech on 5 in 1979 to describe the US, which he accused of imperialism and the sponsoring of corruption throughout the world.
"[America is] the great Satan, the wounded snake," Ayatollah Khomeini Said on 5 November, 1979. The term was used extensively during and after the Islamic Revolution, and it continues to be used in the country throughout the last near-four decades. The term has also found in political statements of Muslim and anti-American activists throughout the world.
