Israeli Apartheid Week Launched in Palestine

Israeli Apartheid Week Launched in Palestine

Alwaght- Israel Apartheid Week in the occupied Palestinian territory was launched on Tuesday, marking the 12th occurrence of the annual international event.
The head of the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) campaign in Gaza, Haidar Eid, told reporters that the events were particularly significant this year due to the record number of cities across the world participating
In Gaza, the week opened with words by Palestinian writer Ibrahim Nasrallah and the former United Nations special rapporteur on Palestinian human rights Richard Falk.
Eid pointed out that more than 200 cities around the world are commemorating the week in March this year, in addition to celebrating the accomplishments of the Palestinian BDS campaign.
Eid called upon Palestinians everywhere to take part in activities of the Israeli Apartheid Week to send a clear message to the international community and Israel that Palestinian resistance will continue until "basic rights that are pledged by the international legitimacy are achieved."
He added that the Israeli Apartheid Week would continue until March 10 in Palestine and South Africa, while other regions worldwide have other schedules throughout March.
Each year, Israeli Apartheid Week takes place across more than 150 universities and cities. It aims to raise awareness about Israeli regime’s ongoing settler-colonial project and apartheid policies over the Palestinian people. Panels, film screenings, and creative actions build support for the Palestinian-led Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) movement.
Inspired by the ongoing popular resistance across historic Palestine, the Israeli Apartheid Week 2016 is set to make a powerful contribution to the Palestinian struggle for freedom and justice.
