Alwaght- The Iraqi authorities announced on Monday that the army managed to cut off ISIS terrorist group supply routes in Fallujah city in Al Anbar province west of Baghdad.
Following the operation, Iraqi troops opened safe passages for the locals to exit the city which has been occupied by the terrorists since 2014.
A military commander told reporters that liberating the city will be a gradual process as the noose around ISIS terrorists is being tightened.
Meanwhile the head of Khalidiya Council in Al Anbar Province announced on Monday, that the security forces have advanced for a distance of 3 kilometers north of Fallujah killing of dozens of ISIS terrorists
Ali Daoud said in an interview, “Today, security forces have carried out a large-scale military operation on ISIS gatherings and strongholds in Albu Shajel and AlBu Shehab areas in Saqlawiyah Island (17 km north of Fallujah), killing dozens of ISIS terrorists,” noting that, “The security forces managed to penetrate an area of 3 kilometers in the island.”
Daoud added, “The army, police and tribal fighters, backed by the international coalition aviation destroyed ISIS defense lines in Albu Shajel and AlBu Shehab vicinities.”
Iraqi security officials says control over Fallujah could pave the way for a final push to flush the terrorists out of the major city of Mosul, the capital of Nineveh Province, which was overtaken by ISIS terrorists in the summer of 2014.
