Alwaght-Regarding the continuation of the crisis in Pakistan, interference of army in political affairs seems more probable. Some experts describe the current crisis as army's soft Coup and even some political parties have called on army to resolve the current crisis. Nevertheless, army commanders announced that militants do not aim at interfering in political affairs. Meanwhile, some Pakistani army commanders announced last week that the government has been weakened to some extent and it is time to force Nawaz Sharif to resign in order to solve the current crisis in Pakistan.
It is predicted that the army does not intervene in the conflict directly. Now, both Pakistani judiciary system and media have become more independent than past. Therefore, they are trying to defend their country's constitution. It is unlikely that the army resorts to illegal ways to topple down the prime minister.
In fact, Pakistan's current political deadlock is a big test for the army. Many parties announced if the army counts coup, the militants would be supported by the parties. However, the army will not be able to handle political affairs easily, because the army is carrying out operations against Pakistan's Taliban in North Waziristan at the moment, India's border forces are attacking Pakistan's borders increasingly and the security situation on Afghanistan's borders are deteriorating. On the other hand, if the military forces seize power, the sanctions by American and European Union against Pakistan may lead to challenges in this country. Therefore, it can be concluded that Pakistan army is not going to carry out a coup.
It seems that army itself supports protests, which are against Nawaz Sharif's government. One of the main goals of the army is to put pressure on government and play a significant role in Pakistan's developments. In fact, the army's most important priorities are to get premiership privilege, increase defense, and military budget and manage how to deal with Taliban in Pakistan, countries such as Afghanistan and India.
Therefore, Pakistan army assured Nawaz Sharif to support his government and not to carry out a coup, despite the demands of oppositions. Additionally, the government has to fulfill the army's demands.
Finally, the army seeks to maintain its influence in Pakistan's political developments and power structure. Therefore, stability, peace, and security depend the government-army agreement.
