Iran: US Political Targets Could Be Legitimate if Assassinations Resume

ALWAGHT- An Iranian security official stated that American political figures could become legitimate targets if targeted killings of officials resume, following US President Donald Trump’s pledge to complete the campaign.

A senior Iranian security official warned that Tehran could target US political figures and infrastructure in countries involved in a renewed conflict if assassinations of officials and mass killings of civilians occur. The official said Iran views itself as already at war with Washington, citing the naval blockade and restrictions on air traffic as continuing acts of aggression. Tehran also expressed doubts about US diplomatic intentions and accused Israel of undermining prospects for a negotiated settlement.

The warning followed US President Donald Trump’s pledge to “finish the job” against Iran. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi responded that Iran had emerged stronger from previous confrontations and suggested that Tehran had unresolved matters of its own. Meanwhile, reports indicated that Israeli fighter jets had conducted a long-range flight toward Iran’s border in what was described as a show of military strength, raising concerns about preparations for further attacks.

Tensions also intensified over the Strait of Hormuz, with Iran maintaining that reopening the strategic waterway depends on a comprehensive ceasefire, relief from US sanctions on oil sales and the release of $12 billion in frozen assets. Tehran has called on the United Nations Security Council to condemn and demand an end to the US naval blockade, while continuing to insist that its proposed seven-day diplomatic plan remains available.

Meanwhile, Iran’s Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) Navy has stepped up action against commercial vessels accused of violating its navigation rules in and around the Strait of Hormuz. Several ships were struck on Sunday, while Iranian authorities have warned that vessels using unauthorized routes could face punitive measures. Separately, Reuters reported that the US State Department was preparing to order some embassy personnel and their families to leave Persian Gulf countries amid growing regional security concerns.
