ALWAGHT- Iran’s top security official says Washington’s economic pressure campaign is destined to fail, arguing that the United States was likewise unable to accomplish its goals through military action against Iran.
Iranian security chief Mohsen Rezaei rejected US claims that Washington’s economic blockade has successfully damaged Iran, accusing Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent of attempting to portray the campaign as a success.
Rezaei cited criticism from Bloomberg of Bessent’s efforts to minimize the blockade’s effects on the US economy, particularly rising fuel prices. He dismissed Bessent’s predictions as lacking credibility and said the latest claims would similarly fail.
Rezaei said the US had already failed to achieve its objectives militarily and would also fail in its economic campaign. He added that Iran would not reopen the Strait of Hormuz through threats or pressure, saying it would only do so after Washington accepts Tehran’s conditions for ending the war and lifting sanctions and blockades.
