Araghchi Travels to Geneva for Third Round of Iran–US Talks

ALWAGHT- Delegates from Iran and the US will meet in Geneva for a third session of indirect negotiations, a dialogue that Abbas Araghchi and Masoud Pezeshkian have approached with cautious optimism.

Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi is traveling to Geneva on Wednesday to participate in the third round of indirect talks with the United States, confirmed by government spokesperson Fatemeh Mohajerani. The talks are scheduled for Thursday, with Tehran emphasizing its commitment to diplomacy while remaining cautious about Washington’s intentions.

Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf delivered a stern message to the US, saying Iran is willing to negotiate on equal terms but will respond decisively if faced with deception or aggression. Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump has expressed a preference for diplomacy while keeping military options open.

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian expressed a “positive outlook” for the upcoming talks, highlighting efforts to move beyond the “no war, no peace” approach under the guidance of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei. Past rounds of talks in Geneva and Muscat, mediated by Oman, set the stage for the current negotiations, with Iran signaling readiness to take necessary steps toward a nuclear agreement.

Despite cautious optimism, significant divisions remain between Iran and the US, particularly over sanctions relief. Tehran is considering technical measures such as reducing uranium enrichment and exporting part of its HEU stockpile, while insisting on its right to peaceful nuclear enrichment and retaining control over oil and mineral resources. The negotiations continue with a potential interim agreement under discussion.
