ALWAGHT- US envoy Tom Barrack says past regime-change efforts in Iran failed, and that Trump supports dialogue and a possible deal if Tehran is genuine.
US envoy Tom Barrack said the United States has tried to change Iran’s government twice in the past, but failed both times. He argued that regime change has not produced results and should not be used again as a policy approach.
Barrack insisted that Washington is not currently pursuing regime change and believes Iran-related issues should be addressed within the region. He stressed that regional dialogue is essential and that solutions imposed from outside are ineffective and unsustainable.
He said President Donald Trump supports serious negotiations, not prolonged or symbolic talks. According to Barrack, Trump is open to a deal if Iran changes course on uranium enrichment and stops funding regional resistance groups.
His comments come as tensions continue, with Iran accusing the US of blocking diplomatic progress. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said US obstruction caused talks at the UN General Assembly to fail, claiming Iran showed flexibility while Washington stalled negotiations.
