ALWAGHT- The head of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council calls for a renewed strategic partnership with Islamabad, drawing on Iran’s experiences with China and Russia.
During his visit to Islamabad, Ali Larijani, secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, emphasized the potential for a strategic partnership between Iran and Pakistan, modeled on Iran’s successful relations with China and Russia. He highlighted that such a framework could strengthen economic ties and facilitate smoother cooperation between the two countries.
Larijani reaffirmed Iran’s commitment to the Iran-Pakistan (IP) gas pipeline, noting that Iran has completed its portion up to the border. He expressed regret that the pipeline is not operational, citing external disturbances and sabotage as causes for the delay, and hoped the issues would be resolved soon.
On security matters, Larijani praised the overall cooperation between Iran and Pakistan, despite past terrorist incidents originating from Pakistani territory. He expressed gratitude for Pakistan’s support during the 12-day war against the US and Israel, describing the relationship as “fraternal” and highlighting opportunities for joint efforts to promote regional peace and stability.
Larijani also addressed broader regional issues, including the Gaza truce and Pakistan-Afghanistan tensions, offering Iran’s constructive role in resolving conflicts. He met with Pakistan’s top military and civilian leaders to discuss enhancing bilateral cooperation, regional security, and strategic partnerships, with Pakistani officials reaffirming their commitment to stability and deeper collaboration.
