ALWAGHT- On Wednesday, Norway announced it will submit a UN draft resolution urging Israel to ease restrictions on humanitarian aid entering the Gaza Strip, which continues to face blockade and extensive destruction.
The move follows a ruling by the International Court of Justice (ICJ) calling for unhindered humanitarian aid access to Gaza.
Norwegian Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide said his country “plans to follow up on this ICJ decision with a new resolution at the UN General Assembly” to ensure Israel fulfills its obligations under international humanitarian law. Norway has been a leading sponsor of the UN resolution that prompted the ICJ’s advisory opinion on Israel’s legal responsibilities in delivering aid amid Gaza’s worsening humanitarian crisis.
This initiative comes as the ceasefire reached on October 9 in Egypt’s Sharm el-Sheikh—mediated by Qatar, Egypt, and Turkey with US involvement—remains in effect, marking two years since the last major Israeli offensive on Gaza.
Despite the ceasefire, Israeli airstrikes and artillery attacks have continued, causing hundreds of Palestinian casualties and ongoing humanitarian challenges.
