ALWAGHT- The Guardian reviewed images, deemed too graphic for publication, showing Palestinian victims blindfolded and bound, including one with a rope around his neck.
Gaza health officials report that at least 135 mutilated Palestinian bodies returned by Israel were previously held at the Sde Teiman detention camp, a facility under investigation for torture and deaths in custody. Documents inside the body bags confirmed their origin, with evidence showing detainees were blindfolded, restrained, and in some cases subjected to severe abuse. Doctors in Gaza say autopsies revealed signs of execution, torture, and even bodies crushed by Israeli tanks.
Medical staff and human rights advocates have condemned Israel for systematic killings and torture at Sde Teiman, describing the camp as both a detention and body storage site. Families of victims identified some of the dead, including 34-year-old Mahmoud Shabat, whose body bore marks of hanging and crushed limbs. Palestinian doctors and witnesses say detainees were handcuffed to beds, deprived of care, and in extreme cases had limbs amputated due to restraints.
Testimonies from survivors describe extreme physical, sexual, and psychological abuse. Journalist Shadi Abu Seido recounted being stripped naked for hours, held blindfolded for 100 days, and witnessing deaths and amputations among fellow detainees. Whistleblowers corroborated these accounts, revealing that patients captured from Gaza hospitals were brought to Sde Teiman in critical condition and subjected to degrading treatment until death.
Physicians for Human Rights Israel confirmed the findings as consistent with their prior reports of systematic torture and medical neglect in Israeli detention facilities. The organization, along with UN experts, called for an independent international investigation to examine the returned bodies and hold Israeli authorities accountable. According to the UN, at least 75 Palestinians have died in Israeli custody since October 2023.
