ALWAGHT- Citing the findings of a recent United Nations report, Iran has called for swift and comprehensive sanctions against Israel over the ongoing genocide in Gaza.
At the 60th session of the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva, Iran’s representative Ali Bahreini cited a September report by the UN Commission of Inquiry on the Occupied Palestinian Territory, which concluded that Israel has committed genocide in Gaza. The Commission determined that Israeli forces carried out four of the five acts defined as genocide under the 1948 Convention, including mass killings, inflicting severe harm, deliberately creating destructive living conditions, and preventing births.
Bahreini stressed that the Commission’s finding of dolus specialis—the specific intent to destroy a protected group—was of the “utmost legal gravity.” He reminded member states of their binding obligations under international law to prevent and punish genocide, warning that no government can remain complicit through silence or assistance.
Condemning both Israel’s actions and Western support, Bahreini accused certain states of political, military, and economic complicity in genocide. He declared that such crimes cannot be erased by silence and vowed that Iran would continue raising its voice in the pursuit of justice.
